PC Pain VS MAC Magic

So let's begin with the Laptops! The first laptop is an HP Pavilion that I purchased in 2007 prior to Circuit City going out of business, that laptop was a power horse when I initially purchased it! It ran Windows Home Operating System. It came complete with all the bells and whistles. I had the computer from 2007 to early 2009 when after NOT remembering to reactivate my Norton AntiVirus Software, my computer was attacked. I started having problems, from slow web browsing to not being able to connect to Wifi, then my firewall somehow began to experience problems. I took it to Best Buy in NW, Washington, DC and spent approximately $150 just to learn, they to, weren't able to find the "root of the problem" so here I am stuck with a computer that I had to use a USB drive just to remove the information I wanted to keep like photos, documents and music. However, I can only turn the computer on but I can't do anything, not even connect to  WIFI and again, that's due to the firewall issue. I'm over this damn thing!

Okay, now fast forward to my bronze HP Pavilion laptop that I purchased in 09 to replace the previous laptop. This laptop was the shit "excuse my french LOL" when I first purchased it! You couldn't have told me that I hadn't purchased the Bentley's of PC's LOL..... now let's fast forward..... it's late 2010 and I accidentally "yanked" the power cord out of the laptop as I was rushing out. Now even after that "as you see the damage to the power outlet" the computer was still operable. Then all of a sudden in the summer of 2010 the computer just "shut down and restarted" on "it's own" right in the middle of me tweeting, facebooking and checking my email" I was livid and afraid! When I realized that maybe it was "another Windows/Microsoft glitch" I thought nothing of it. However, when I went to power the laptop on the very next day, I received the black screen with the lights that you see above. When I contacted HP they basically said in so many words "because your laptop is no longer under warranty and it appears your mother board has crashed, let's run your credit to get you into another new lemon!" I couldn't believe that they weren't willing to "repair" their product at "my expense" since I was adamant that if I were "forced" to spend over $200 on an HP computer that I was going to invest in a MAC once and for all! The HP representative attempted to coerce me and if I were weak or "eager to spend more money" then she would've had me from the beginning of her sales pitch. Unfortunately, she didn't! She didn't understand why I was so "Attached" this "old" computer, I explained the computer was only a little over a year old and it was actually quite exceptional in regards to performance other than the most recent issues. The woman told me there was nothing HP would do, even if I agreed to pay whatever they wanted to charge me. She wouldn't even entertain my request to speak with a manager or a senior technician. She made me feel extremely invaluable, not only as a consumer but as an intermediate computer user. I've used computers, primarily PC's and here I am in my 20's questioning MY research, MY investment, and MY skills, because their product failed to last beyond the 1 year extended warranty! I SMH and LMAO to avoid becoming indignant over the phone, especially since it wouldn't fix my computer.

Now looking at my HP desktop, I purchased that in 2007 and that to was working fine until 2010 as well. That computer was by far the best HP investment I've made since my father purchased a Compaq Presario from QVC for me in 1996. I got rid of the Compaq in 2004 simply b/c of the same issues I begin to experience with the HP. It got old! LOL It began to run slow, I was livid about the constant "software updates" that Microsoft had me to run. It felt like the more software updates I ran, the slower my computer got. Then I realized my damn fan went out! I called HP "again" pleading, they kicked me to the curb again!
This time the woman I spoke to was actually quite humorous. She asked me how in the hell did I get the computer to NOT only power on, but work and connect to the internet without my fan properly working? I explained to her "honestly I have no idea" yet I took things I've seen my uncle do and teach me from age 7 and added along some things I learned from Googling and the HP Support and tada! My computer worked! However it's still extremely slow and barely worth the wait to power it on. I dread getting rid of it, yet the design simply isn't relevant anymore. It's too clunky and I HATE Windows 8. I can't see myself transitioning to that. I'm barely getting along with Windows 7 and TRUST ME "GOOGLE CHROME" really made that difference and the fact that my husband found a great Dell that closely resembles my HP Desktop and so here I am.

Yet, I have MY eyes set on the Ipad Mini, the Imac Desktop and the Ipod just for the Ihome music center use. However I'm an avid Blackberry user, and since Blackberry has given me my hearts desires and Apple has finally answered my prayers, these two will now be my power horses.

I am over the constant "antivirus software scans, updates, and downloads that PC's requires; I'm tired of the glitches..... the shutting down and restarting; I'm tired of the Microsoft updates that have to be ran in order to enjoy the "basics" of the programs that your using. I'm just over my relationships with PC's, every PC I've invested in, has caused me pain ultimately.

I've heard nothing but good things from MAC users I know and have met briefly! I've NEVER heard any of them say "my MAC just shut down and rebooted on it's own, or my mac won't turn on, my mac's motherboard crashed, or my favorite Apple is refusing to repair my mac they suggested I upgrade."

Now I see why MAC doesn't have "several different brands/design Mac's" they don't need them! They have the Macbook Air 11.6" and the Macbook Pro 13.3" and 15.4" Shown below:

you can compare the Macbook Pro to the Samsung Series 3 and tell me what you think. I'd also love to hear especially from those in the "Computer Information Technology field" if they were me, what would they do.

I honestly believe that the only way I will see a return on my investment is to invest in MAC going forward. I've given PC's 20 years total and it's time for a change. I have 3 PC's that are "inoperable" in one aspect or another, for one reason or another; that again, HP has blatantly refused to fix when I've contacted them via phone. I am going to try again, however I'm ONLY trying because if I can fix the bronze laptop up enough to get it to power on so that I can at least get my pictures, music, documents onto a USB drive so that I can upload it to a MAC then great! If not, someone please inform me of where I can go to have these computers properly disposed of. Otherwise, I will destroy them myself!

Let me know what you think. Share your experiences and advice.

  1. I'm "currently" using the Bronze laptop now. I've had to download Norton 360 initially. Once the Norton 360 was installed, it began to clean up my computer and the registry errors.

I've figured out that the problem is my "hard drive" however with several diagnostic tests I've ran, the problem "intermittently" seems to be resolved. However I'm proactively planning to either "upgrade my memory on my current computer and then upgrade my operating system from Windows Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 at the very least, despite the fact that as I much as I claim to hate Windows 8, I've adapted sooner than I thought since I've had "real life practice" assisting my uncle in troubleshooting and navigating his PC. Updates will be provided throughout this journey. I'm praying that I can fix my computer because I honestly love this machine and I'd hate to have to part with it. This is my classic car that I'd like to keep as long as they make parts for it! ;o)
