#Bipolar the depths of depression versus the marvels of mania. Can we benefit from them or will they ultimately destroy us?

To answer the question I posed, yes! Yes, you can benefit from them. Yes, they can ultimately destroy you. It's all about knowing and identifying your triggers during each episode. Once you've identified the triggers, you must keep a record of the feelings you experience and the behaviors you display; so that you can benefit. Otherwise, you'll be destroyed by the episodes.

While drowning in the depths of depression, it's important to identify what, who or where depressed you to begin with. It's important to maintain a record of what you do during your depression versus what you could or should be doing. Once you've overcome the depression I suggest reviewing those records to assist yourself in attempting to prevent those triggers from bringing you down. Depression is extremely crucial. Depression can benefit you if you convert those negative feelings into positive aspirations.

The marvels of mania can be great and detrimental. Again, this depends on your ability to identify your triggers and maintain a record of your feelings and behaviors during your manic episodes.

While basking in the marvels of mania it's important to maintain realistic expectations of yourself and others. It's important to remain openminded despite your narcissism, abilities or potential. It's easy to destroy opportunities and relationships, because of our heightened sense of self. We feel and behave as if we're invincible. Knowing deep down we aren't.

Always turn the negative into positive aspirations. Learn to accept when you're wrong. Be willing to live without certain people, places, and things. Often times we want people to remain loyal and loving, all while we're tumultuous. We have to be mindful that our episodes manic or depressive takes a toll on us; but it also takes an extreme toll on our loved ones especially those we live among.

Creating a realistic plan of action to either prevent yourself from having the episodes, or what to do to get yourself out of it or managing it; is essential to establishing and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Therapists, Psychiatrists, etc may not be for everyone. However, I suggest establishing a connection with them and doing at least "psycho therapy" as needed.

I flew under the radar for twelve years until in early 2012, I experienced a mental break. It was 90%mania and 10%depression that caused me to spiral out of control. Thankfully, because of my plan of action I'd been accustomed to living by; I didn't lose complete control. Yet, I recognized that I needed to be grounded. Being grounded meant that for at least one year, I needed to be under a doctors care.

That was a great decision, because it's helped me learn more about myself. It's helped me accept this is who I am. I've accepted that I do well being manic. I've promised myself that I won't be consumed or defeated by depression.

I've also accepted that some relationships were meant for a reason and season; I also accepted some relationships can't be restored, because the emotional and physical damage my episodes caused are irreconcilable.

I've also accepted newer,  likeminded relationships can and have been established. Having a mental illness is difficult, but it's possible to have some normalcy.

Pray for strength, courage and wisdom. Plan. Be honest, accountable and consistent. Always maintain your realistic sense of self worth and purpose.
